The birth of chiropractic!

September 18th is the birth of Chiropractic. We wanted to share a couple of fun facts that you may not know about this amazing healing profession:

1. The first adjustment in 1895 performed by the founder of Chiropractic D.D Palmer was to a deaf janitor named Harvey Lillard who had lost his hearing 17 years ago after a back injury. Within 2 adjustments Harveys hearing was restored and remained so.
   
2. During the 1918 Spanish Flu, those people under Chiropractic care were 98% more likely to survive the pandemic. Statistics and records from 1918 document 925 deaths out of every 10,000 people treated medically for the flu but only 25 deaths out of every 10,000 people treated with spinal adjustments!
   
3. Did you know that Chiropractic is the one of most utilized forms of alternative medicine in the world!
   
4. There are many types of techniques that chiropractors utilize - some are very light touch and more energetic in nature, while others are more manual. Each adjustment works to help the body innately heal, however each person will gravitate towards the type of adjusting that resonates with them.
   
5. Chiropractic means done by hand and is based on a philosophy of a 3 legged stool. Each leg represents an important element - philosophy, science and the art of adjusting.
   
6. Chiropractors have extensive education that mimics medical doctors almost to a tee. The exception is that chiropractors don’t learn pharmacology (we don’t prescribe meds) and spend more time learning neurology (the adjustment affects the nervous system, so makes sense!).
   
7. A Nobel prize winner by the name of Roger Sperry found that 90% of the brain’s stimulation and nutrition comes from the movement of the spine - guess what an adjustment does? Restore natural motion to the spine!
