Dry Skin?

10/28/2021

What causes dry skin? Dehydration and a lack of healthy fats are the two most common culprits! One easy way to help ease troubled skin is to stay hydrated. Good, clean, drinking water is top of the list for awesome hydration help. Next up is healthy fats. Coconut, avocado, and olive oils are all great. Fats from pasture raised animals are going to be the best for your body. Vitamin D is stored in fat, so you will also get a healthy dose from your locally raised pastured meats!
Lastly, let’s talk about topical products. Jergens original has something silly like 15 ingredients. Do we need all those things on our skin? Heck no. A simple fat/oil of your choosing, and beeswax to help hold it on is all you really need! The more simple, the better. Do you really want all that weird stuff just sitting on your skin?!?!
If you are looking for simple salves or want to know more about making your own skincare products… comment below, send us a message, or talk to Aimee next time you’re in the office!

EMFs, what are they?

10/21/2021

EMF stands for Eelectromagnetic Field. Electric and magnetic fields are invisible areas of energy, often referred to as Radiation, that are associated with the use of electrical power and various forms of natural and man-made lighting.

In a 2017 National Institute of Health study regarding EMFs and the amount of technology in our life, they said:

"
Electromagnetic fields (EMF) have various chemical effects, including causing deterioration in large molecules in cells and imbalance in ionic equilibrium. Despite being essential for life, oxygen molecules can lead to the generation of hazardous by-products, known as reactive oxygen species (ROS), during biological reactions. These reactive oxygen species can damage cellular components such as proteins, lipids and DNA."

So what does that mean?!?!

According to the NIH Environmental Health Sciences, Currently, scientific evidence has not conclusively linked cell phone use with any adverse human health problems, although scientists admit that more research is needed. It can be pointed out that the use of technology is at an all time high, and so are instances of disease and illness. EMFs are believed to be causing harm at the cellular level.

Also known as Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS) or electrosensitivity, is a condition in which an individual experiences symptoms like headaches, dizziness, unusual heart palpitations, or insomnia, around wireless technologies or electrical devices such as smart meters, cell towers, Wi-Fi, mobile phones, cordless phones, power line magnetic fields, intermediate frequencies, and electric fields from various electronics devices.

We have two ways to mitigate our exposure The first way is to simply limit our exposure. Avoiding sitting directly next to appliances, keeping wifi routers out of common spaces, and sleeping away from our cellphones. Next up is how we support our bodies on a cellular level to assist in the repair of EMF damages. Whole foods are an easy way to get the nutrients we need. Protein, animal fats, nuts, and berries will all help you on. Look for foods high in these nutrients/vitamins/minerals, or consider adding supplements to your diet to help where you may be falling short.
  • Collagen is a favorite for cellular repair
  • Vitamin C goes hand in hand with collagen when looking to repair
  • Vitamin A for cell growth
  • Anthocyanins are the dark blue purple compounds in blueberries and red cabbage
  • Vitamin E is the top antioxidant out there! Check the ingredients if you are taking an E supplement. You want as little ingredients as possible, and no soy.

A forced slowing down...

10/14/2021

How often do we actually listen to our bodies? Honestly, most of us listen a lot. More than we are aware of. Too hot! Too cold! I’m thirsty (that one’s harder than others sometimes). So what do we do when our body is telling us to slow down?
Last week I had that moment and I didn’t listen. I panicked. I knew I needed to stop, but for that moment I chose not to. Because someone else needed help too. Now, what’s the thing we always tell each other? It’s that you can’t take care of others if you can’t take care of yourself.
So, a weekend knocked on my ass. Nothing got done. And I wasn’t 100% healed after. Did I learn my lesson? No. Only that adjustments were the only thing that we’re actually helping me and helping my body to heal- this isn’t a paid advertisement!! I swear!
My body was ruined. I rode it hard, put it away wet. And now rather than letting it heal, I had to let it fully rebuild. Bacterial pneumonia is no joke!! It’ll lay ya flat and make you wonder about all your life choices. Again, getting adjusted has worked wonders for me. I literally came into the office with a pulse ox of 87 and left at 94. Yes, someone else was driving, so don’t worry about that safety hazard.

But here’s the thing. If you asked me, I’d tell you i do all the “right” things. This time it wasn’t enough. Literally no amount of filtered water and low toxin body care was going to save me. I’m having to do the work now. And Dr Liz and her magic hands. Truly. Let me bare witness on this one. But I’m the one eating the right foods to rebuild my body. I’m the one allowing the rest. I’m the one drinking filtered water so my body can focus on healing and not detoxing.
So, let this be a wake up call. You aren’t invincible. You aren’t better than anyone else. And you need a break. A really good real break.
So stop what you’re doing. I promise it can wait. My life has been put on hold. Not by my choice. Make it your choice, and you will have time another day to do another chore.

Chiro is only 10 minutes of your day

10/7/2021

We talk a lot about how each action you take can build health or be detrimental to it. I like to joke with people that each adjustment is 10 minutes out of their day and they then have 23 hours and 50 minutes to help or hinder, the choice is theirs.

But, seriously the check and adjustment is only 10 minutes out of the day of our client. If each choice you make determines your health, you’re able to consciously move towards better function and improved health.

Choosing Chiropractic care is one action you can take to build health and vitality. By staying conscious of your choices surrounding your stressors - thoughts, toxins, traumas and technology, you’ll integrate adjustments faster and make positive changes to the function of your nervous system. Relying on one action per day whether it’s adjustments, movement or meditation to ‘fix you’, will always leave you fighting an uphill battle as you undo the positive change one choice at a time.

Peace, Love & Wellness
Dr. Liz
