Kelly McGonigal is a researcher who has studied the effects of our behaviors. In particular, she did a study where they had participants do a power pose for a few minutes and then studied before and after spit samples. What they found was an increase in biomarkers after the power pose, indicating the body recognized a stressor and was mounting a response. In short, the power poses were increasing the participants confidence and ability to take on the stressor. How amazing is that?
So, take a look at your own posture. Are your shoulders up and back or are they hunched and forward? Is your head up above your shoulders or is your head forward? Are your arms rotating in front of your chest and abdomen or are they out on the side?
A flexed forward posture is recognized by the body as a defensive posture. When you are in a state of defensiveness, your body responds accordingly to protect you. When you are in an upright and confident posture, your body recognizes that you do not need to be in protective mode and can relax in your surroundings.
Your posture affects your physiology. You know the fake it til you make it concept? You can literally trick your brain into thinking you are feeling positive and confident. Give it a try next time you are in a stressful situation!
In health and wellness,
Let’s quick review what a subluxation is: this is an area of your spinal cord where tension is being stored, interfering with the communication between your brain and body. There are a few different kinds of stressors that lead to subluxations - physical, chemical, and mental.
Mental stressors come in many different shapes and sizes. Your job, your finances, your relationships with your loved ones, general societal stresses, and guess what? YOU. Yep. You can be your own mental stressor.
My previous blog post talked about the importance of self-love. The one before that talked about resonance and how it is affected by your thoughts. Negative self-talk can, and does, lead to subluxations. If you are continually focusing on the negatives in your life, it literally downgrades your health.
The chiropractic adjustment clears the subluxation, but if you are continually subjecting yourself to a stressor, then it will be very difficult to move beyond your subluxated pattern. Health isn’t just what you eat, your exercise, and your sleep. It is also your mind.
Be kind to yourself. Assess what is on your mind and address it. Don’t brush things away, because that only causes the stress to pile up.
We are here to love and support you on your health journey. But the critical piece is you taking the necessary steps. Let us know how we can help!
In health and wellness,
Self love. How do you take care of yourself? No really, HOW do you take of YOU?
Self love happens on a daily basis. What are you feeding yourself both physically and mentally? We all have insecurities. But do you allow yourself to look beyond what you think to be your flaws? Do you accept them? Do you appreciate the different parts of you - personality, body, life?
Just like if you love and appreciate someone else and they reciprocate it, if you love and appreciate yourself, you will find that your relationship with you improves.
You have one mind and one body. Why wouldn't you treasure it? Why wouldn't you appreciate it? Why wouldn't you love it?
Take care of yourself. LOVE yourself. Sit down and determine what are your needs and work to fulfill them. Because YOU are worth it.
In love, health, and wellness,
Resonance. Vibration. Frequency. Energy.
You are a human being made up of tiny cells that are made up of even tinier atoms. These atoms are vibrating at a speed beyond our comprehension. Your body is a vibrational being. This vibration sends out a certain frequency. Did you know that your decision making, your thoughts, your actions determine your vibration? So poor decision making and negative, victim thinking leads to a decrease in frequency. Conscious decision making, joy, gratitude, growth mindset all raise your vibration.
Have you been feeling like life is just happening to you lately, in a negative way? Check your daily thoughts and actions. What vibration are you putting out? The vibration you are at and send out is the vibration at which things will be sent back to you. It’s not magic, it’s actually quantum physics!
Dr. Liz LOVES all things mindset. Meditating is a great way to improve your mind and body awareness, and will help increase your frequency. I personally love to journal (I enjoy writing, if you haven’t noticed!) and this helps me work through sticky areas in my life so that they don’t hold me back.
